Bit of useful info which could save you a sizeable chunk off your energy bills…
E-On, and probably numerous other energy providers, have different tariffs for businesses…and even if you let an office in a building (eg Chris Moody and Ross Williams for example), you can all be on different tariffs. Check with your supplier that you are on the appropriate one – they will almost certainly not volunteer that there are options other than their standard higher rate…just like mortgages, where banks will happily put you on their standard rate which is great for them and not for you….
In our case, it turns out that the electricity provider to the building in which we rent an office, EOn, had put most of the offices on an inappropriate tariff for our level of consumption. We don’t have a choice of supplier as this choice is made by the building’s owner, but there are plenty of options of tariff available depending on usage and nature of your business. But you need to ask (difficult when you don’t know options exist) as the information is not made readily available.
Net result – the new tariff we have been offered more than halves the daily fixed standing charge and reduces the unit charge by over 25% – a huge saving.
Great news….though not impressed that we (and most of the other tenants in the building) have been being fleeced for 18 months or more. Of course, despite EOn’s policy of applying the higher rate by default and not giving any information about there being choice of tariffs, they are refusing to backdate the change to the “appropriate” tariff for our consumption. At least we will benefit from now onwards.
Good luck
